Mt. Cody is in the NFL. Welcome #99 Josh Chapman!

Josh is 6'1'' @ a mere 310LB's and is also the strongest player on Alabama's team. He is not a big as Mt. Cody but should be able to disrupt the running game up the middle by getting the push on the center and guards to prevent teams from stuffing the ball down Alabama’s throats.

Backing up Josh are Kerry Murphy and Brandon Ivory.

There is no need for Alabama fans to panic, the Crimson Tide certainly has the depth to ease the transition of no longer having Cody lining up in the middle of the defensive line.

Mt. Cody at War with the Flu...

Senior nose guard Terrence Cody missed his second consecutive practice Thursday!

Cody said "he hasn't eaten in two days."

"I don't think everybody's wiped out. Just a couple guys. Guys just got to stay clean. We're all right. It's just the flu. It's not any worse than practice. ... Don't tell anybody I said that. I'm just playing."

Update on Mt. Cody ...

Cody doesn't want to come off the field so often this season.

How's that coming? Well. ...

"I told him if he weighed 348 pounds, I'd leave him on the field on third down," Saban said. "He hasn't gotten there yet."

Goal 345 = Currently 354. Cody is on Track!!

“(He’s) a different Cody, a better Cody I believe,” cornerback Javier Arenas said. “He’s a little slimmer and moving better. It will make teams approach a whole different scheme.”

Cody now a SLIM 354 LBS!

The 6-foot-5 Cody played last season at 365 pounds. And when he suffered a mid-season knee injury, his conditioning suffered.

Now Cody said his knee is "100 percent," and he plans to play the 2009 season without a brace. He has dropped to 354 pounds, and the difference is evident.

"I'm able to do a lot more things that I wasn't able to do when I was heavier," said Cody, who passed on early entry into the NFL Draft to expand his game and trim his waistline. "I'm quicker off the ball and using my hips more. My footwork is getting better."

If Cody is capable of being an every down player, he could create the kind of disruption that Saban said is key for any pass rush.

Terrence Cody and Rolando McClain (Watch list for the 2009 Rotary Lombardi Award)

University of Alabama football players Terrence Cody and Rolando McClain both have been named to the preliminary watch list for the 2009 Rotary Lombardi Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top down lineman or linebacker.

Cody was a consensus All-America selection from his noseguard position after making 24 tackles with 4.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries last season as a junior. He was a semifinalist for the 2008 Chuck Bednarik Award and a unanimous first-team All-Southeastern Conference choice.

McClain, the Crimson Tide’s middle linebacker, led the team in total tackles with 95 and had 12 tackles for loss. He also registered three sacks, one interception, six pass breakups, two quarterback hurries and two fumble recoveries, including one for a touchdown.

'Bama 2009 All American's

Taylor vs. Mt Cody!

By Sean Smith's account, Zane Taylor is one of the strongest players on Utah's team.

By Utes offensive line coach Charlie Dickey's account, Taylor is one of the smartest players and, as his starting center, one of the most technically sound.

It's a good thing that Taylor receives such ringing endorsements from his teammates and coaches when it comes to his best attributes. He's going to need them in the Sugar Bowl when Utah squares off against Alabama.

The job for the sophomore from Moab will be one of the most important of the game. He's the one who has the task of slowing down Terrence Cody, the monstrous Crimson Tide nose guard who is one of the best defensive linemen in college football.

Mt. Cody now 100%

It has been a month since Alabama nose tackle Terrence Cody sprained his knee ligament, and coach Nick Saban is finally seeing the Cody that opened the season devastating offenses.

"He's practiced this week and looked like the Terrence of old," Saban said. "He's not favoring his leg, he's pushing off. He's got some of his initial quickness back. He's playing faster, moving better, he's rushing better."

Cody missed two games with his injury, then had just one tackle in each of the last two games. The open date prior to this week appeared to help the 365-pound transfer immensely.

"The knee is doing excellent," Cody said. "Over the weekend I got more treatment in and got it better and got it stronger. I needed that extra week for my knee."

He's Back!!! Mt. Cody

Alabama nose tackle Terrence Cody was in a crimson, full-contact jersey for practice today, at least during the portion media is allowed to view. He was wearing a brace on his right knee, which had a sprained MCL that kept him out of two games, and sleeves on both knees.

So that's a positive for Alabama.

Notes From Monday's Saban Press Conference

CODY RETURNS TO PRACTICE

Saban said that injured nose tackle Terrence Cody will practice today for the first time since spraining his right knee Oct. 18 against Ole Miss, adding that, "We don't really have a lot of other injuries. We've got some nicked up guys, but everybody should be ready to go tomorrow for sure."

"We've just got to be day-to-day with Terrence in terms of how he progresses. He's worked hard. He's rehabbed very well. He has stability. Now we've just got to see how he functions out there playing football."

LSU - Josh Chapman & Mt. Cody!!

If you are eagerly anticipating Saban's welcome in Tiger Stadium, you aren't alone: "I'm waiting to see it, too," nose tackle Josh Chapman said, making himself laugh.

Chapman, by the way, spoke with nose tackle Terrence Cody on the field about his sprained MCL: "He said, he'd be back," Chapman told me Cody told him.

Eva Longoria Parker says, bring on LSU! Or something...

The MRI on nose tackle Terrence Cody's knee confirmed that he will be out "at least two weeks," Saban said.

Saban likened it to the injury left tackle Andre Smith had in week one, and he returned two weeks later. That means by the Nov. 8 game at LSU, Cody could be ready to go.

Saban on Cody: "We can't replace him, but it's an opportunity..."
