Alabama redshirt freshman Barrett Jones was first up at right guard during Saturday's scrimmage, according to Nick Saban.
"He has been doing the best job today, to this point," Saban said, "but we've got a lot of competition at a lot of positions."
Jones, a former blue-chip prospect from Memphis, began practicing with the first team during the previous week. Sophomore Alfred McCullough temporarily held the spot earlier this preseason.
