“Shaun Alexander pulled me aside and said, ‘It’s going to click here in a minute. It’s going to get easy for you,’” McElroy said. “That really got my confidence up.”
At the half, McElroy was an ugly 6-for-18 for 94 yards with an interception. In the second half, he completed 9 of 12 attempts for 136 yards with the 18-yard touchdown pass to Mark Ingram and a two-point conversion pass to tight end Colin Peek.
